Chuck H. Wells
I, Chuck Wells, a 48-year-old man, who should have known better, suffer through a series of misadventures to beat the odds and reach the 800-meter final at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
A former high school track standout 30 years ago, all I wanted was an excuse to exercise.
When I start working out, however, my long-dormant dream of reaching the Olympics surfaces. It becomes a Olympic-sized obsession and problem.
Not only do I have to deal with my age and recalcitrant legs but, toughest of all, the disapproval of my wife. Only my two daughters believe in me from the beginning.
I’ll be honest: I got more help — and luck — than you can believe.

I’ve worked in the newspaper business as a writer, an editor and a columnist for more than 30 years.
But at the heart of it all, I’m a storyteller. I love to tell stories. And I have a million of them to tell.
This is a really nice intro. Nice to meet you!
Thanks for visiting. You do a nice job, too.
Thanks so much for liking a recent post of mine! I’m glad we’ve connected and am looking forward to exploring your blog 🙂
I appreciate your outlook on life and also how you honor IB. Keep up the good work.
Hello Chuck,
I think I’m going to enjoy your journey…! 🙂
Thank you. I appreciate the elegance you display in your writing. It is a quality hard to find these days.
Thank You; I feel that way about your writing. It is very enjoyable reading..!
Is this truth or fiction? I can hardly believe a 48 year old running a 1:49 800! Although, I only have followed high school track with a running son. But no one else seems confused!
I’m blogging a novel. It’s an allegory on aging and the battles that come with it.
You see, there’s a little Chuck Wells in all of us. We each have a special talent that sets us apart plus worthy hopes and dreams. As we age, we have many of the same issues to deal with that Chuck faces such as self-doubt, age discrimination, an unfair world, the need for approval, etc.
I hope this doesn’t spoil it for you or anyone else. I still think it’s trip worth making.
Well, cool! Or should I say…Wells, cool?

Your intro is very nice – excellent story teller! The hubs was a newspaper man as well, until we couldn’t afford for him to be anymore. You must have the stamina of an Olympic runner. 🙂 Having been one for 30 years tells me that you and he are from the same time period – journalists are a wholel different breed these days.
